Seaside Park
Seaside Park, adjacent to the Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, provides year-round public space for the people of Brooklyn. The design, led by landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, comprises one acre of park space surrounding the one acre outdoor amphitheater. While the amphitheater itself provides a spacious area for community gatherings, the lush surrounding green space includes a broad hilltop lawn and a series of picnic groves for more intimate gatherings.
An important feature of this new public space is the terraced Play Garden. A series of landscape rooms provides challenging play opportunities for children of all ages. The densely planted surroundings incorporate a palette of specimen plantings that provide seasonal interest and respond to the unique character of the Coney Island Boardwalk. This immersive landscape reintroduces a natural setting into the urban fabric of Coney Island and provides an exciting public amenity.
