The sounds of Puerto Rico reach the shores of Coney Island in this showcase of powerhouses, featuring Andy Montañez, affectionately known as the Godfather of Salsa, and Charlie Cruz, a salsa scion who got his start in his father Fenay Cruz’s band before collaborating with Domingo Quiñones and releasing nine solo albums. Montañez got his start as lead singer of the legendary El Gran Combo, before leaving to join La Dimension Latina and later forming his own orchestra. No stranger to new sounds, he even dabbled in urban rhythms with his 2006 LP Salsa con Reggaetón. They’re joined by People of Earth, an international ensemble that obliterates barriers between genres, crafting an explosive mix of the music of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil and beyond.
